Terry Shipley is an artist working in hand built ceramics. After becoming a member of McColl Center for Visual Art's, Clayworks in 1999 Terry began working full time as a studio artist. After several exhibitions, two affiliate programs with the Center, public and corporate commissions, and continued development of her craft, she has created a distinctive body of work that has increased in scope and incorporates her sense of humor, bold colors, and finely executed faces, figures, flora, and fauna. She creates highly decorative work inspired by her collection of nature illustrations and photographs, architectural design journals, as well as her personal environment.
When asked to describe her experience at the Center, Shipley said:
"During my time at the Center, 2000-2004, I really enjoyed the abundance of exhibitions and opportunities afforded the Affiliate Artists. I met so many new and interesting artists both from the Charlotte community and from all over the globe at the Center. Often these people became inspiration and connections to a growing arts environment. My exposure and commission work grew as a result of my time with McColl Center. My continued connection to the Center is inspiring and productive. I am forever thankful for that enduring experience."
