Renee Stout utilizes a wide range of mediums in order to make immediate and tangible the ideas she shares in weaving an expansive narrative of the human condition and human relationships. Through a cultivated alter ego, Fatima Mayfield, Stout’s work addresses issues from social ills and romantic relationships to financial hardships openly, creatively and often humorously aspiring for both self-discovery and societal revelation. Stout received her BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and has work in many permanent collections including the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. She currently works and resides in Washington DC.
