Location: Winston-Salem, NC
Sharif Bey was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As a teenager Bey received intensive training in ceramic arts as an apprentice at the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild. While studying for a BFA, he received the Samantha Smith Memorial Grant to study sculpture at the Academy of Fine Art and Design in Bratislava, Slovakia. He holds a BFA from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania; an MFA from the University of North Carolina Greensboro; and a PhD in Art Education from Pennsylvania State University. Bey exhibits his vessels, sculptures, installations, and conceptual wearables nationally and internationally.
