Songyi Kim was born in Seoul, Korea and received her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Kim's videos address ideas surrounding identity and have been featured in numerous film festivals, including the Asian American Film Festival in New York, NY, and the Darklight Digital Film Festival in Dublin, Ireland. Kim has also participated in major residency programs such as the Bemis Art Center in Omaha, Nebraska, and the Jentel Artist Residency in Banner, Wyoming. Kim, who often uses personas and performance in her work, is currently exploring themes surrounding the self and private domain. Kim currently lives and works in Manhattan.
