Shaun El C. Leonardo blends personal narrative and pop-cultural iconography from his childhood within self-portraiture as a means to convey the complexities of his own racial and masculine experience. El C. received his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and currently lives/works in Queens, New York City.
He has received residencies/grants from the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, The New York Studio School, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Art Matters, and the New York Foundation for the Arts. El C Leonardo's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is represented by RHYS/MENDES Gallery, Los Angeles/Brasil with upcoming solo presentations in Lisbon, Brazil, and Toronto.
