One of my favorite things about working at McColl Center for Visual Art is being able to see the progress our resident artists make during their term. I have seen everything from ceramicists turning into printmakers, jewelers transiting into public art and studios transforming from their basic function into whimsical installations. This residency period is no different, the artists have yet again captivated my interest in their creative process.

On Friday, November 20th, an opening reception will be held from 6 to 9 PM that celebrates the work from our 11-Month Affiliate Artists, Darren Goins and Dianne Hughes who are now at the 7-month mark of their residency period. Showcasing the products of their process, the 2nd and 3rd floor galleries  display their new work composed of photography, works on paper, mixed media and sculpture. Darren Goins, a painter/printmaker says of his new work “the sculpture adds a decor touch to the hallway of the Center, they reflect both aesthetics of the building and of the 2d work it occupancies.”

While Darren and Dianne will continue their residency through March 22, 2010, this reception also marks the conclusion of our fall artist-in-residences term. Join us on the 20th and visit our artists in their studios, say hello or good-bye, find out what they have been working on for yourself and what comes next!
