The Center is pleased to welcome back alumni Artist-in-Residence, Daniel McCormick, a California environmental artist with a distinguished resume of creating environmental art installations that help restore and preserve damaged places. During his residency in the fall of 2009, McCormick created an installation in Freedom Park adjacent to the Carolina Thread Trail, beside the Charlotte Nature Museum. Offering beauty as well as educational, environmental and economic benefits for the people of the region, McCormick was able to enlist the aid of local business, civic groups, public schools, colleges and universities. The success at Freedom Park prompted collaborators to conceive a six-month planning phase to achieve replication in other regional sites. During his special six month tenure with the Center, McCormick will work with the Center to conceive a master plan and budget for involvement of other environmental artists to restore other damaged sites with diverse environmental approaches.
